on atheism

A proper, full-throatedly smug atheist graced Pyro with his 'wisdom' in the past couple of posts there. I will admit to being an atheist myself, in my uninformed youth. I wasn't the kind of breed of atheist that baits believers - I was simply a teenager who found it expedient to reject the existence of God so I could do what I wanted.

I was contented with this for a short while, but I soon became intrigued by the idea of a diety and quickly became a theist. That's not to say I was a Christian - I tried all flavours of belief - paganism, witchcraft, buddhism, Jehovah's Witnesses. Since becoming a Christian, those things have held very little attraction to me - but atheism, in dark moments when life seems very tough, has still a little pull on me.

But, as I said in the comment thread at Pyro, meeting a real life atheist cures me with remarkable speed. I haven't actually been struggling with atheism recently - but I reckon I've received a good dose of innoculation against it for some time to come.

The sovereign Lord even uses atheists to edify and encourage His children.
God is so in control of our lives. Evene when we are not walking with Him as we should He loves us, and blesses us, and even others through us.
Maybe He gets even more glory and praise for His grace in these times.

Thanks for sharing that. Wonderful to hear.

I have found that the best "cure" for doubt is to turn on a program where unbelievers are spouting off or go hang out with some or pick up a book by one. It doesn't take long and you are defending your Lord and the truth. Truth is the remedy for so many things.

Isn't it funny how that works? (A hard-core atheist 'curing' you of temptation to doubt.)

Kind of like seeing a full-blown case of disease to show us what the virus will develop into.

I had a peep but find Pyromaniacs virtually incomprehensible! Perhaps I forgot to put my brain in when I got dressed this morning

I have a soft spot for atheists, because like you I used to be one. What I see in them is a frightened child stumbling in the dark and point blank refusing to let anyone simply put the light on. If the light's not on, then it's possible to convince yourself it isn't there. All it takes is a simple act of faith to click the switch. It's actually very sad when you think about it :(

Good to see you blogging again dear, btw :)
